Why Bucket Backpacks are a Thing

People look for bucket backpacks when they want to carry materials such as rocks, soil, sharp objects – or even liquids. The inner bucket layer can get scratched, dirty and nasty while the backpack itself remains in good condition.

Catching Grey Water in a 5 Gallon Bucket

If like me you’ve ever wished that all that precious water didn’t just escape down the drain, you could try replacing your plumbing with a 5 gallon bucket!

This outdoor sink is made with some scrap wood and an old enamel kitchen sink and faucet.

Once the bucket is full, it’s splashed onto the garden, the lawn, into the radiator, wherever it’s needed.

By the way, 5 gallons in a lot of water. It’s exactly enough to take a thorough shower.

Ivory Buckets

ivory situla bucket conicalThese are the rarest of all the bucket species. Very few ivory buckets remain in the world, and each one is a priceless relic.

These buckets were each carved from a single elephant tusk by a highly skilled ivory craftsman. The only remaining four examples are all from the 10th century, commissioned by the Catholic church for their cathedrals.

Ivory buckets were too precious to be used for ordinary worship services of course! These fanciest of fancy buckets were only used during certain special ceremonies, and only to hold the most special of waters –  holy water.
